Peak Bagging

The craggy peaks of the Gallatin Range offer several objectives for peak baggers. Three of the most prominent are Mount Chilsom (10,333 feet), Hyalite Peak (10,298 feet), and Mount Blackmore (10,154 feet). The relatively straightforward ridges connecting many of Hyalite's peaks can make for fun link-ups and long days in the hills. From up high you'll be able to see many of the other peaks and ranges in the Greater Yellowstone. Keep your eyes peeled for bighorn sheep, mountain goats, pikas, and other wildlife too!

When heading into the Hyalite backcountry bring extra layers, water, food, and always carry bear spray. Be aware that the weather can change quickly in the mountains and afternoon thunder storms are common in the summer.
