Snowshoeing and Hiking
There are infinite possibilities for exploring Hyalite on snowshoes. You can follow the marked trail system or simply explore the wintery backcountry off trail. A few trails see enough activity that snowshoes or skis are not always needed, even in the middle of winter. The Grotto Falls Trail #42 is a great short hike that is often passable on foot leading to a scenic frozen cascade. When following the marked cross country ski trails, please be aware of trail etiquette and avoid walking or snowshoeing on the ski tracks set by the groomer or by other skiers.
There are two SNOTEL sites located in Hyalite Canyon: Shower Falls and Lick Creek. You can check the SNOTEL website before driving up the canyon to get up-to-the-hour information on temperature, snow accumulation, and more.
