Due to public health and safety concerns and associated restrictions on large gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be hosting a 2020 Spring Clean Up Day in Hyalite. We look forward to gathering together again this fall to clean Hyalite, if this public health crisis has passed.

In the meantime, if you are recreating in Hyalite this spring or summer, please help us to keep Hyalite clean. First and foremost, always practice Leave No Trace when visiting Hyalite. You can also help by picking up, and packing out, litter that you find along the road, at trailheads, or anywhere in Hyalite. If we all chip in a little bit we can make a big difference!

Please keep the following safety measures in mind when picking up littler in Hyalite:

  • Wear gloves. Wash your hands with soap and hot water or clean them with hand sanitizer as soon as possible after picking up litter. Don’t touch your face!

  • If something looks suspicious, leave it and contact Friends of Hyalite or the Forest Service.

  • Be aware of sharp objects like nails and broken glass and take precautions when handling and disposing of these items.

  • When cleaning up litter around water be careful not pull on fishing line that is attached to something - it might release and hook you!

  • Be cautious to not overfill trash bags - keep things light enough to easily lift.
