Support FoH on Giving Tuesday - Austin Mallet Fund matching donations
As you consider which of the many worthy nonprofits in the Bozeman area to support on Giving Tuesday, we hope you will consider Friends of Hyalite. Your contributions will help contribute toward plowing Hyalite Canyon Road which would otherwise be closed to winter recreationists.
This year you have a unique opportunity to double the impact of your donation. The Austin Mallet Fund will be matching the first $5,000 contributed to Friends of Hyalite on Giving Tuesday in memory of alpinist Austin Mallet. Austin, who died tragically on May 9, 2024 in an avalanche, was an accomplished ice, mixed and alpine climber with ascents of hard, technical climbs around the world. But Bozeman was Austin’s home, and Hyalite Canyon was his much-loved local playground. In the winter, he climbed almost every difficult ice or mixed route in the canyon (many multiple times). In the summer, you could find him running throughout the canyon. In 2021 he created the Hyalite Ultimate Ridge Linkup (HURL) route which traverses 13 major peaks in Hyalite. You can learn more about the life and accomplishments of Austin here.
Enjoy winter in Hyalite this year knowing that your donation has helped make the canyon accessible for so many people. Remember to recreate responsibly, drive carefully, and be prepared for changing weather conditions. And please, NO pallet fires!
